I love fresh new venues, creative ideas and something different... and this is exactly what I found at Pieter & Sybil's wedding. They got married on their farm Ombujonjupa about 50 km outside of the town of Okahandja. It's rainy season in Namibia from January to April and what a delight to capture this unique venue in the stunning green surroundings of our beautiful country.

All the decor was done by themselves.. a truly vintage farmhouse feel. Even the pouring rain through the tents could not cool down the warmth of the evening.

The 16th of December will always have a special place in my heart as this was my wedding day too! This time, however, I had to share this special day with another couple...

Marsha was the first of her 4 sisters to get married and Tamonika Events made sure it was an event to remember! Marsha looked absolutely breathtaking! For the most part they just enjoyed the day and all its moments, which made it easy for Neeltjie and myself to capture.

Christina Swart Opperman funksie - 17 November @ Safari Court Hotel, Windhoek.

November was a month that passed quickly with much to do and too little time to do it in. There was one event that I really want to share with you.

Christina Swart Opperman Orphans Trust hosted a magnificent event on the 17th of November to raise awareness in Namibia with regards to the great need there is when it comes to under- privileged children and especially orphans.

It was an evening of glamour and great Namibian and South African entertainers such as African Boy, Vambo Seun, Gaza, South Africa's great artist, Chris Chameleon and off course the 2010 South African Idols winner, Elvis Blue.

I would like to say more about the event, its goals etc. but I will give you a full feedback in the new year.

Neeltjie had her debut in wedding photography at Okahandja Lodge on the 8th of October. This was her first full wedding without having me around... and I thought it well to share some of this with you. After all, you will be seeing Neeltjie's featured work on this blog and on my website more and more!

She is my second hand and she is fast becoming a great individual photographer here at SNP. Keep a look out for her work, you will be pleasantly surprised. :)

Eugene & Liezaan got married on a lovely October afternoon at Okahandja Lodge. The bride was dressed in a lovely gown by Cobus Moller and Tamonika Events was hosting an event the couple will cherish forever.

Ve'lekhaya Project

I know I've mentioned the WLCC before on this blog - but as they are always busy with projects, I thought it best to share the following project with you. These photos will probably not even come close to the real thing, but it will hopefully inspire you...

The Windhoek Life Change Centre (WLCC) was established in 2002 by a number of businessmen and church leaders who felt the urge to address the needs of poor and needy people in Windhoek. Since that time, the WLCC has grown from strength to strength, and it has become an establishment that truly changes the lives of people not just on physical levels, but by addressing their emotional and spiritual needs as well.

One of the many needs are people who are forced to live in sub-humane conditions as the cost of housing is often excessive or housing is simply not available. When natural disasters occur people are displaced and have to seek emergency shelter. What awaits them... a tent or sub-standard shack? Every human-being should have an equal opportunity to adequate shelter. This is why the WLCC developed a dedicated house building project.

Wispeco Namibia has made a generous donation towards the WLCC project by donating two brand new Vel'ekhayas to show their support to the project. The Vel'ekhaya is an excellent alternatie to the traditional shacks found in most rural areas in Namibia. It can also act as temporary classrooms and for contractor labour camps.

In conjunctions with Wispeco who are the suppliers of the Vel'ekhaya concept, the focus has been placed on the building of prefab houses that will improve the living conditions of people in comparison to the traditional shack. The Vel'ekhaya system is based on the concept of an insulated panel system with a polyurethane inner core that is "sandwiched" in between two external weather proof boards. The panels are easily assembled to set up your new Vel'ekhaya in no time.

WLCC selected 2 women that have been actively involved in the activities of the WLCC for the past 3 years and donated the houses to them as part of their commitment to improve their living conditions. Wispeco & WLCC are looking to expand the project further and to erect as many as possible of the Vel'ekhayas in the near future with the help of the community's assistance. Therefore ANY donations or sponsorships towards this project is MOST welcome!

Jean-Marie is a regular here at Susan Nel Photography and I've done many pictures of her and her family... but this time I enjoyed the shoot SO much, I decided to dedicate an entire blog on her and her daughter. They are both SO beautiful - and I am looking forward to many more!
